Round 3 Final Day - Highlights (Palma)

Description

Palma, Spain --- The medals have been decided at the 42nd Trofeo S.A.R. Princess Sofia MAPFRE in Palma, the third of seven regattas on the ISAF Sailing World Cup series. Only two points separated the three front runners in the Laser heading into the Medal Race. Whoever finished ahead between Paul Goodison (GBR), Tom Slingsby (AUS) and Nick Thompson (GBR) would win the gold medal. And it was Goodison that finished in front of his nearest rivals. His third place finish in the Medal Race gave him a points total of 44. Slingsby finished fifth in the Medal Race with silver overall, he ended on 47 points and Thompson came a disappointing seventh, but his 53 points were enough to give him the bronze medal. The Finn Medal Race was the first to start and finish in Palma. Ben Ainslie (GBR) went into the race with a 14 point advantage over Giles Scott (GBR), and he did not give his compatriot any chance as he claimed the bullet in the Medal Race. In the women's 470 Jo Aleh and Bianca Barbarich-Bacher (NZL) won gold today after finishing fourth in the medal for a point's total of 64. (Video courtesy of ISAF YouTube Channel - isafchannel)
