Aussies Prepare for Final World Cup Round

Australia’s leading Olympic and Paralympic class sailors are readying themselves for the final round of the ISAF Sailing World Cup, the Skandia Sail for Gold Regatta, with racing beginning in Weymouth, England.

The entire Australian Sailing Team, Australian Women’s Match Racing Team and a large number of Australian Sailing Development Squad athletes have made the journey across the globe to spend time competing at the sailing venue for the 2012 London Olympic Games.

Queensland to Host 2012 Laser World Championships

Following an Australia wide bid for the World Championships, the International Laser Class Association in England has selected the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron (RQYS) in Manly, as host for the two events in 2012.

Despite strong competition, the successful bid secured both the Laser Radial Men’s and Youth World Championships to be held on Moreton Bay.

Two Golds & a Bronze for Aussies at World Cup

The Australian Sailing Team has won two Golds and a Bronze medal on the final day of round six of the ISAF Sailing World Cup in Kiel, Germany.

Mathew Belcher and Malcolm Page continued their dominance of the 470 men’s fleet at this regatta, finishing second in the medal race to claim the Gold medal and wrap up the 2009/2010 ISAF Sailing World Cup in the process.

Watch: Double Gold for Aussies at World Cup in Holland

The final day of round five of the ISAF Sailing World Cup has proven to be a golden one for the Australian Sailing Team with Tom Slingsby winning the Gold medal in the Laser class while Nathan Outteridge and Iain Jensen claimed first in the 49ers in an action packed medal race. 

Slingsby headed into the deciding medal race with a 16 point lead over second placed Nick Thompson of Great Britain knowing that he would have to keep his eye on his competitor to take the Gold medal.

Sail Down Under Series Dates 2010

Yachting Australia has announced the dates for the 2010 Sail Down Under Series with Australia to be the hub of Olympic class sailing action from the end of November until mid-December.

The 2010 Sail Down Under Series will again include three regattas, in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne, with the series arranged to allow competitors time to travel between regattas.
