| Sellathurai Wins World Champ Bronze |
|
Prashanth Sellathurai won't have any time to rest on his laurels after clinching his second world championship medal in London at the weekend. The 23-year-old Sydneysider will have to be ready to take on the world once more in two major international competitions before Christmas. First up will be the Gymnastics World Cup in Stuttgart, Germany, in November followed by the Toyota International Invitation in Japan in December. Sellathurai hopes his next results will be even better than his bronze medal result in the men's pommel horse final at the world championships at London's O2 Arena on Saturday. 'I'm happy, but it would have been nice to do the routine neater,' he said. 'But that's just me.' 'There's three or four skills I could have executed better. It wasn't too bad though.' Gymnastics Australia chief executive Jane Allen said she believed Sellathurai, who had qualified fifth for the event, had done 'a great job'. 'There are four men in the world that do the difficulty of the routine that he does and he's one of the them,' she said. 'It was a very close competition.' Sellathurai scored 15.400 for his routine, behind China's gold medallist Hongtao Zhang (16.200) and Hungarian silver medallist Krisztian Berki (16.075). The bronze medal was Sellathurai's second world championship medal on the same apparatus in three years. He collected a silver for the pommel horse at the 2006 championships. But despite his medal success, Sellathurai says it's too early to say whether he'll still be competing by the time the 2012 London Olympics roll around. 'I'm not sure I'll be around for that long,' he said. WCSN Subscribers can watch Sellathurai's performances by clicking here. With Thanks To Gymnastics Australia |
